Brazil is the country of music and rhythm or, rather, of many musics and rhythms, since the immensity of the country and the countinuous blend of the different ethnic groups involved make it almost impossible to speak of one and only music.
For three centuries, the main musical influence has been that of the Portuguese colonizers who brought European music in, which would later so easily mix with American and African rhythms. No wonder why there is such a multitude of musical genres in the country today: successive waves of immigrants have left their marks in the musical history of Brazi1; music and dance have become a second nature for the Brazilians and are the most popular means of expression, accessible to everyone.
